Nutrition Projects

Organizations often ask Vissot to manufacture nutritious foods for their nutrition projects to improve the health of malnourished children. By manufacturing nutritious products locally, the foods can be designed to suit the specific health needs and palate of Cambodian children.

1.     Partners in Progress.

Since 2006, Vissot has produced many tonnes of product for partners in progress to feed malnourished children. The product is made from ground peanuts, sesame seeds and palm syrup to provide protein, calcium and carbohydrates for malnourished children. The Partners in Progress nutrition program feeds about 1600 children in rural Cambodian villages.

2.     ADRA and Sanitarium Joint Nutrition Project.

Vissot produces and distributes nutritious food products for the ADRA/Sanitarium joint nutrition project. In turn, ADRA and Sanitarium Health Food Co help to provide training and improvements for the Vissot industry and staff. Foods that Vissot produces for this project include:

·         Fortified rice porridge.

·         Fortified noodles.

·         Fortified bread flour.

3.     Government Project: Severely Malnourished Children.

There is an urgent need in Cambodia for products to treat children with acute malnutrition. IRD (Institute for Research and Development) is collaborating with UNICEF-Cambodia and the Cambodian government to develop specialized foods for the treatment of children with moderate and severe malnutrition. Seeing the quality Vissot products in the market place, Healthland was approached to help develop and manufacture the nutritious products which are being designed to suit the palate and nutritional needs of Cambodian children. The products will be based on locally available ingredients (rice, mungbean, oil, sugar) as well imported ingredients (whey powder, vitamin-mineral premix).
